Thursday Night (8:00-11:00 p.m.)
ABC's Thursday delivery built by double-digit percentages week to week
in viewers (+11% - 8.0 million vs. 7.2 million) and young adults (+13% -
2.7/7 vs. 2.4/7), hitting a best-since-premiere rating on the evening
with Adults 18-49 - since 9/22/11.
* The Net was up over the year-ago November Sweep Thursday (7.8 million

"Grey's Anatomy" (9:00-10:00 p.m.)
Once again tripling its lead-in (+264%) at 9:00 p.m., ABC self starter
"Grey's Anatomy" was Thursday's No. 1 drama with Adults 18-49 for the
8th week running this season, towering over Fox's "The X Factor"-fueled
"Bones." Dominating the 9 o'clock hour in young adults, the fall finale
of "Grey's" (4.0/10) defeated Fox's "Bones" (2.7/7) by a much greater
margin of 48% this week (up from 9% the prior week) and outdelivered
NBC's original comedies ("The Office"/"Whitney") by an impressive 60%
(2.5/6). In addition, the ABC veteran drama once again shot to the top
of its time slot among Adults 18-34, Adults 25-54 and all key Women,
finishing as Thursday's No. 1 TV show across the Women demographics
(W18-34/W18-49/W25-54).
* Surging over the prior week by 1.7 million viewers (11.2 million vs.

since its September season opener - since 9/22/11.
"Private Practice" (10:00-11:00 p.m.)
Continuing its build, ABC's "Private Practice" more than doubled its
original drama competition to win the 10 o'clock hour, beating NBC's
"Prime Suspect" by a best-ever 142% in Adults 18-49 (2.9/8 vs. 1.2/3).
Additionally, "Private Practice" ran as the No. 1 drama in the hour for
the 7th straight week with Adults 18-34 and Women 18-34.
* As its numbers increased for the 3rd consecutive week in viewers (+17%
- 7.7 million vs. 6.6 million) and young adults (+12% - 2.9/8 vs.
2.6/7), ABC's "Private Practice" attracted its biggest audience since
its premiere and achieved its highest Adult 18-49 number in 1 year -
since 11/18/10.
A note about increasing DVR penetration and year-to-year rating
comparisons: Year-to-year rating comparisons based on the Live + Same
Day data stream are distorted by the level of DVR penetration in the
Nielsen sample, which has jumped up to 43% currently, from 38% at the
same point in 2010. More viewers are watching shows on their own
timetables, which may not be reflected in the overnight next day
numbers. The only truly valid year-to-year comparison would be one based
on the Live + 7 Day metric, once those stats are released by Nielsen.

Release PSAs to Help Children in East Africa Crisis
WESTPORT, Conn. (July 28, 2011) – Save the Children has partnered with Grey’s Anatomy star Kevin McKidd to generate more awareness of the emergency situation in East Africa, which is threatening the lives of more than 10 million people. The new
Public Service Announcements released today highlight the needs of children and their families who are suffering from the worst drought in decades.
“These families have been left with no crops, livestock or water,” said McKidd, a Save the Children supporter. “Save the Children has set up emergency feeding centers to provide food, water and medical care to thousands of people each day, but more help is urgently needed. Aid workers are reporting that children are walking 50 to 60 miles, often carrying younger siblings on their backs, in order to reach these emergency centers.”
McKidd says he hopes the PSAs will inspire more people to help these children.

"The 'Grey's Anatomy' scrubs offering enhances the ABC Online Store, which we launched last
September," said Amy Maniatis, Vice President of Marketing at CafePress. "Bringing Barco
Uniforms into the fold extends our relationship with ABC Entertainment Group even further, while
engaging fans of 'Grey's Anatomy' in a new way that benefits a good cause."
To raise awareness of Barco's Nightingales Foundation and promote its efforts to help children

DISNEY/ABC TELEVISION GROUP LAUNCHES INNOVATIVE "GREY'S ANATOMY" SYNC APP
FOR iPAD
New App for ABC's Top Rated Series Offers Enhanced Viewing Experience
Powered by Nielsen's Media-Sync Platform
Disney/ABC Television Group today announced the new "Grey's Anatomy" Sync
App for iPad App, now available on the App store. Powered by Nielsen's
Media-Sync Platform, the app provides fans of the show the ability to
interact with exclusive content in real time using iPad. Lexus is the
presenting sponsor of the "Grey's Anatomy" Sync App.
Launching with the February 3rd episode, the app will allow "Grey's Anatomy"
fans to seamlessly interact and engage with specific moments in all of this
season's remaining, first-run episodes. In addition to exclusive companion
content like polls, trivia, behind-the-scenes insights, production details,
character bios, video and photo galleries, users will also be able to
"check-in" to virtual environments within episodes, such as riding an
elevator with Dr. McDreamy. Users can then share their experiences with
friends and other fans of the show through their Facebook account.
In addition to engaging with episode content, users will have the ability to
interact directly with Lexus' ads through trivia and also link back directly
to the Lexus website (m.lexus.com/TheHardWay).
The new offering is the latest collaboration between Disney/ABC and Nielsen
following last fall's My Generation Sync app, a proof-of-concept experiment
that was initially tested last fall.
Nielsen's Media-Sync Platform is a complete application development and
operating environment that allows TV content producers and broadcasters to
deploy sync-to-broadcast mobile apps in a rapid and scalable fashion. The
platform relies on audio watermarks already inserted into nearly every TV
program in the U.S. as part of Nielsen's industry standard TV audience
ratings service. In addition to giving viewers the ability to interact with
synchronous content tied to their favorite shows, the Media-Sync platform
also delivers interactive advertising modules as companions to the ads on
the big screen. This capability gives viewers the opportunity to dive deeper
into TV ads for products that interest them, and gives advertisers a
powerful new way to extend the effectiveness of their TV ad buy.
ABC's Grey's Anatomy Media-Sync App is available from the App Store on iPad
at www.itunes.com/appstore .
A video demo of the new "Grey's Anatomy" Sync App can be viewed at

26% (3.1/9), respectively.

A note about increasing DVR penetration and year-to-year rating
comparisons: Year-to-year rating comparisons based on the Live + Same
Day data stream are distorted by the level of DVR penetration in the
Nielsen sample, which has jumped up to 36% currently, from 30% at the
same point in 2009. More viewers are watching shows on their own
timetables, which may not be reflected in the overnight next day
numbers. The only truly valid year-to-year comparison would be one based
on the Live + 7 Day metric, once those stats are released by Nielsen.
